The Delhi government has directed clubs, hotels, restaurants and bars in the national capital to check physical age proof of suspected underage customers before serving alcohol to them. The state government has stated digital id copies would no longer be valid for determining the legal age of consumers to whom liquor is to be served in the capital.

The directive came into effect after Delhi’s excise department unearthed during recent inspections that a few underage customers were consuming liquor in Delhi’s , clubs, hotels, restaurants, etc. while pretending to be of legal age. They produced fake digital ids before the staff to get the liquor.

According to the Delhi Excise Rules, the legal drinking age in Delhi is 25 years.
