Drive in Chandigarh to prevent underage drinking

Despite the fact that 25 is fixed as the minimum age by the Chandigarh
administration to consume liquor in Chandigarh, some bars, pubs, hotels and
discos in Chandigarh are been flouting this rule. Thus the Chandigarh’s excise and
taxation department has decided to conduct checks at such establishments across
the UT and slap penalty on those violating this rule.
However, hoteliers and restaurant owners operating in Chandigarh have raised
objection against this drive. The Chandigarh Hospitality Association has demanded
to lower legal liquor drinking age in Chandigarh to 21 from the present 25.
