Proposal to Increase Duty-free Liquor Quota
  • PublishedJanuary 2, 2020

In its proposal for budget 2020-21, the Association of Private Airport Operators (APAO) has proposed to double the quantity of liquor a person can buy from duty free shops in India to four litres. The airports body has written to government ahead of the budget that “Liquor allowance given in India is not at a par with liquor allowance in neighbouring countries/Asia Pacific countries.”

The association has also cited that duty free operations in South East Asia and the Middle East region generate impressive business through tourists from India.

Furthermore, the APAO claimed that benefit of enhanced revenue which can come through the actualisation of the above-mentioned measure would facilitate airports in India to bring down cost and thus would enable them to pass the benefit of reduced cost to passengers.
