Government of Uttar Pradesh is in high action mode to tackle Corona Virus (COVID19). In a proactive decision, the state government has roped in 20 distilleries and sugar mills to produce hand sanitisers to romp up the availability.

State Government and distilleries collaboration will ensure availability of sufficient quantity of sanitisers for medical professionals and general public in large as demand is at all time high due to COVID 19 threats. Produced at 20 distilleries and sugarmills in 15 districts, a total of about 39054 liters sanitisers will be made available per day in the state. The decentralised production will reduce the transportation time & cost and will ensure availability of cost effective sanitisers in remote areas too.

Speaking to Spiritz Magazine, Principal Secretary, Excise and Sugar, Sanjay Bhoosreddy said, “When reports started coming in last week, the stock of hand sanitisers was getting exhausted and an acute scarcity of hand sanitisers was being reported by hospitals and the general public, with prices going up by 4 to 5 times of the normal MRP. The UP Government thought of launching the initiative of roping in distilleries in UP to manufacture sanitisers.”

He further added, “Those sugar mills and distillers, which have ample alcohol stock, have been directed to provide raw material to sanitiser manufacturers or alternatively; they want to set up their own brands to sell in retail market.”

Meanwhile, the central government has already brought Ethyl Alcohol, ENA (Extra Neutral Alcohol) and Ethanol under purview of Essential Commodities Act and fixed the price of ethanol used in hand sanitisers.
